How to set up a Bedwars map on your server

A Bedwars plugin runs the game, but it needs to know where everything is on your map. Setting up a map is a walk around it, marking points as you go. Here is the list of what to mark and the order that saves time.

By the Chunkwright team. Updated 10 October 2026. Paper or Spigot with any Bedwars plugin, such as BedWars1058 or ScreamingBedWars. Command names differ between plugins, so check your plugin's setup page for each one.

Step by step

  1. Load the map as its own world

Bedwars plugins reset the map after every game, so the map lives in its own world, not your lobby world. Upload the folder and load it the way your plugin asks: some copy worlds from their own folder, others use a world you load with Multiverse. See adding a map to your server.

  2. Write down the points first

Before you start the setup mode, walk the map once and note each point. A good map download lists them for you. Per team you need:

    • the team spawn
    • the bed (both halves placed)
    • the iron and gold generator
    • the item shop NPC spot
    • the upgrades NPC spot

For the map you need the diamond generators, the emerald generators, the waiting lobby spawn and the map edges.

  3. Run the plugin's setup

Start the setup mode on the map world, then stand on each point and run the matching command. Do one team at a time in the same order, so you never miss a point. Set the generators by standing on the centre block of each pad.

  4. Set the build limits

Most plugins ask for a height limit and the map edges. Keep the build height a few blocks above the highest island, so players cannot tower over the whole map, and set the void kill height below the lowest island.

  5. Save and test with two players

Save the arena and play one game with two accounts. Check that each team spawns on its island, each bed breaks and ends that team, the generators drop at the right speed, and both NPCs open their menus.

What makes a Bedwars map play well

  • Fair islands. Every team island is the same, turned to face the middle. The same distance to the nearest diamond island for every team.
  • A clear bed spot. The bed sits where it can be defended from more than one side, not in a corner that is impossible to reach.
  • Bridging distance. Gaps of 20 to 30 blocks between islands give players time to react without turning every game into a long bridge race.
  • Nothing to stand on by accident. No floating decor that lets players skip a bridge.

Keep the map as built

Turn off things that change the map between resets: /gamerule random_tick_speed 0 (or randomTickSpeed before 1.21.11), and turn off mob spawning in the map world. Your plugin may already do this for its arena worlds.

Questions

What do I need to set up a Bedwars map?

A Bedwars plugin for your server version, the map in its own world, and the position of every team spawn, bed, generator and NPC spot.

Which Bedwars plugin should I use?

Pick one that supports your exact server version and has recent updates. BedWars1058 and ScreamingBedWars are two common free choices.

Can I use a Bedwars map in single player?

You can open and explore it, but the game itself needs a Bedwars plugin on a server.

From our studio

Our Bedwars map comes with Marker_Coordinates.txt: every team spawn, bed half, generator pad, shop and upgrades NPC spot and the lobby spawn, so you can run the setup straight from the list. We also build Bedwars and Skywars maps to order.
